In 2007, the electronics giant, Philips, launched a new product, the Aurea LCD screen with Ambilight technology. The campaign included an interactive website with music throughout that responded differently to a user’s journey through the site. There was a film by Wong Kar-Wai, photography by Vincent Peters, and the music by Mark Slater was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with engineer Andrew Dudman. The site won several awards for music and audience choice, including the Webby Awards. On one page of the site, visitors see a simulation of the Aurea as it responds to different genres of film music, Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi and Action. In another, users draw different light beams across the screen with a pointer, triggering various instrumental layers within a piece of music. For this, four short pieces were created and different instrument groups were recorded separately. This track is one such assembly of those 4 pieces and their different layers.
